Genetic Modification

If your colonist or whelp didn't roll with quite the genes you wanted, there's hope! There are several ways to adjust different parts of the genetics of your colonists, both pre-roll and afterwards.

Adult colonists who already have designs must use Medicinal Shrooms as add-on to their design update with the following.

Base Coats

Base coats are the base colour of the colonist, such as black, silver, redcurrant, etc. These cannot be affected by Philters, so they are a bit more solidly set.

Weaning Only

  • Slice — Slice removes 1 allele from a whelp during weaning. Limited to once per litter.
  • Dice — Dice adds 1 allele to a whelp from a parent during weaning. Limited to once per litter.
  • 20 Sided Dice — The upgrade to Dice, this allows for the dicing on of an allele that a parent doesn't have. Limited to once per litter, does not stack with Dice.

Any Colonists

  • Serum of Erasure — Remove one allele from any undesigned geno. Follows same rule and logic as Slice.

Markings

Markings make up the majority of the colonist's genome. They allow colonists to have spots, stripes, dark or light patches, and the like! Some markings or items have specific rules, see below or their descriptions.

Breeding Only

  • Negative Selective Breeding — Reduces the chance of a gene from being inherited from parents. This is not a guarantee.
  • Positive Selective Breeding — Increases the chance of a gene from being inherited from parents. This is not a guarantee.
  • Rainstone — Guarantees at least one randomized recessive marking in a breeding.

Weaning Only

  • Slice — Slice removes 1 allele from a whelp during weaning. Limited to once per litter.
    • Recessive Genes: If used on a recessive gene, it swaps one recessive allele with its dominant counterpart. For instance, Hf hf would become Hf Hf, not hf hf, because Heartfire is a recessive gene.
  • Dice — Dice adds 1 allele to a whelp from a parent during weaning. Limited to once per litter.
    • Recessive Genes: If used on a recessive gene, it adds the usable allele. For instance, Hf hf would become hf hf, not Hf Hf, because Heartfire is a recessive gene.
  • 20 Sided Dice — The upgrade to Dice, this allows for the dicing on of an allele that a parent doesn't have. Limited to once per litter, does not stack with Dice.
    • Reversal: Dice and 20 Sided Dice may only add +r or the base gene's allele; for instance, you may not go from pt pt to Pt+r pt in one use.

Any Colonists

  • Serum of Erasure — Remove one allele from any undesigned geno. Follows same rule and logic as Slice.
  • Philters — Currently in beta. Philters can be used on any colonist to add one allele for specific markings.
    • Certain things, such as reversal, base coat colours, and dominant markings (two paired up alleles for non-recessive markings) may not be applied with a philter.
    • Note that all philter use is currently done manually and you must be clear in weaning or design update comments that this is what you're doing.

Mutations

Mutations are additions that modify the body of a colonist, sometimes in very transformative ways. Note that items during weaning may need to be manually applied.

Breeding Only

  • Mutie Lover — Increases the chance of mutations occurring in a breeding. This is not a guarantee.
  • Sunstone — Guarantees a random whelp from the litter will have at least one mutation.
  • Mutated Parent â€” A parent with mutations is more likely to have offspring with mutations.
  • Higher Levels — Along with increasing stats or whelp count, breeding two colonists together who are higher level may increase mutation chances.
  • Inbreeding — HIGHLY DANGEROUS, this increases the possibility of mutations occurring, but also of whelp death or birth defects.
