Ambergris, Depths, Splash and Snowfall were visiting Mireh with Zulli in tow to collect some more fruits that Noodle insisted were medicinally necessary, but there was one problem. A storm had swept through the land recently, leaving everything looking a little worse for wear. Branches hung off trees, the fresh, ragged breaks bright against the darker bark. Leaves were everywhere, and while animals called and chirped, revitalized by the rain, the foliage and plants had clearly taken a beating in this copse.
They stepped out of the flyer, Snowfall making a beeline for a patch of mud, while Zulli flew up and perched in a tree. The adults, meanwhile, looked around, uncertain.
"I don't think we're going to find much," Splash ventured uncertainly.
Depths nodded and Ambergris was about to join, but a voice suddenly cut through their conversation.
"Oh! There you are!"
Snowfall's head popped out of their mud puddle, and Zulli chirped inquisitively as a bedraggled pink figure appeared out of the trees. "It's been AGES since I called for some help, absolutely AGES!"
"Er," Splash said blankly.
"We aren't a rescue team," Ambergris said flatly, but Depths flicked ae with his tail.
"What do you need help with?"
The pink aerobic tilted their head, then shook themself out and resumed their rant. "My HOUSE! A tree fell on my HOUSE! And nobody seems to care!"
"I think they're out solving bigger problems," Ambergris muttered quietly, and gave Depths an innocent look when he flicked ae with his tail again.
Splash talked over ae, tilting their head. "Can you tell us more? We're not the people you called, but maybe we could still help."
The bedraggled creature drew themself back, looking positively affronted. "And you didn't think to tell me? Oh! But no matter. I suppose any set of hands is better than none."
They bent down to examine a mud-coated Snowfall, who blinked up at them with round eyes, and an entranced looking Zulli who had flitted down to the ground. "Even if those hands are perhaps smaller than I would like."
Depths snorted with some small amusement as Zulli puffed up. "I can help just as good as they can!" she exclaimed, while next to her, Snowfall lifted their hands to examine them, wide-eyed.
Splash shared an amused look with Depths, while Ambergris sighed, looking resigned.
"We can help," Depths told the bedraggled aerobic. "Where's your house?"
"This way!"
The aerobic lead them deeper into the copse, Depths picking up Snowfall so they didn't have to wade through the mud, Zulli flying ahead while Splash and Ambergris came up behind. Birdcalls echoed through the woods, and Depths reflected that it would be a nice peaceful place to spend a day, except for the obvious destruction wrought by the storm's heavy winds and rain.
Eventually, a small clearing with the aerobic's house came into view, and Depths winced. A large tree that had provided it with shade had been struck by lightning, causing it to split dramatically. One half was now resting in the house's roof, what appeared to have been a greenhouse's roof completely ruined.
"Ouch," Splash stated mildly, sitting back to examine the tree critically.
Zulli made a sympathetic noise. "Poor tree…" before she remembered her purpose and shook herself out. "But I bet we can move it!"
Snowfall nodded seriously as Depths set them down and stood up next to Splash.
"What do you think?"
"It's doable. Thankfully it's not the entire trunk, just half of it. The way it's positioned… if we weaken the base, we should be able to lift and slide it sideways off the house."
AMbergris nodded, taking out an axe. "I suppose the weakening is my job?"
"Yes. But chop it towards the clearing, not the house. We don't want to make things worse."
"Yeah, yeah."
With that, the sound of metal impacting wood began to echo through the clearing, and Splash and Depths began to get into position. They asked the aerobic - introduced as ROse Thorn - to make sure Snowfall and Zulli didn't get too close or come to harm, and they seemed to take the request very seriously.
The tree was not a featherweight to move, and it took all three of them straining - pulling, pushing, yelling with effort - to get it to finally crash down into the clearing. As it fell, some of its branches did a bit more damage, but at least it wasn't on the roof anymore.
Rose thorn seemed happy, letting Zulli and Snowfall loose to play on the fallen tree, but then something else seemed to register.
"My ROOF! Has a HOLE IN IT!"
Splash and Depths exchanged a look while Ambergris sighed loudly. "I guess we're going to become amateur construction workers at this rate," ae sighed.
The other two just stared in resigned silence at the roof that was now more hole than roof.
