The air was thick and heavy with the scent of smoke, vapors, and far too many bodies in close quarters. A dimly lit room, though large in and of itself, was packed seemingly wall to wall with those dancing, partying, drinking, and all around having a good time. The occasional colored strobe light illuminated club-goers at random. The room was alive with the thumping bass of loud speakers, energetic music streaming out from them. On two opposite sides of the room huge illuminated words proclaiming "Bar" signaled a pair of doors for those seeking refreshments, snacks, and a lighter mood to find their quarry. This was the place to be on a Friday night.
Unfortunately for Alole, Quirk, and Dragoo though, they were not inside. Instead the three Tark'ee were miserably waiting in a line that seemed to be infinite in its sedentary state. The outside air was frigid as a sharp contrast to the heat inside the club, built up from the numbers of dancing people. Dragoo shivered and snuggled against Quirk and Alole, sandwiched between the two fuzzier Tark'ee. He was not used to such cold environments. The three of them were on a trip to chilly Rekes and had heard about this great club to try. Unfortunately they had not heard about the need to get there early or already be on a VIP list to get in.
Finally Alole snapped. "Guys we cannot stand around here all night. There's gotta be a way in." Dragoo looked up mournfully at him. "I'm so cold" he whispered. He really just wanted to be out of the cold and was ready to try anything. Quirk narrowed her eyes and a determined look came into her eye. "I have an idea. Gather round and listen close."
The three huddled up and put their heads together. "Alright, so you know how there's a VIP list? All we gotta do is convince the bouncer that the three of us are actually on the VIP list and then bam! No more line." Alole stole a glance at the bouncer and sized him up. "Okay, I'm game. I think we can do that. All we gotta do is walk up with confidence right?" Quirk shifted back and forth in excitement "yeah, yeah! We got this. We just go up with full confidence." Dragoo spoke up "I overheard the bouncer when we passed by looking at the entrance say something about a new name on the list- Coriolanus. They might not know what this Coriolanus looks like. Maybe Alole can pretend to be him and we're his plus ones?"
"That's perfect!" Quirk exclaimed gleefully. "Great snooping, Drag" Alole affectionately nuzzled the aquatic Tark'ee. "I'll be this Coriolanus and we're gonna be confident snooty rich people that they don't know and it's gonna work perfectly." The three agreed and made their exit from the line giggling to themselves about their brilliant plan.
Making a wide circle around to meet the bouncer without being seen by him exiting the line, the three rolled up, heads high, silent, committed to the bit. Alole stepped forward and looked the bouncer in the eye, clearing his throat. "I'm on the VIP list- Coriolanus." He said in a tone that dared anyone to argue with him. "And these are my plus one's." He gestured to either side of him as Dragoo and Quirk made up his entourage. Both gave the bouncer a curt nod and Quirk went so far as to wink- really trying to sell the act of an entourage to a fancy VIP lister.
The bouncer slowly looked his list over and squinted at the words. He looked up the list and squinted at the three of them, returning to the list. Alole shifted and sighed impatiently getting ready to make a remark about the time it was taking. Before he could though, the bouncer interjected in bewilderment "You're Coriolanus… the famed hat model? …..huh. I would've thought you'd be wearing a hat."
Alole blinked for half a second and then jumped into character letting out an exasperated huff "oh of COURSE everyone always thinks if you model hats you must always wear hats. It's hats this and hats that all day. Can't a guy take a break from his JOB to enjoy himself without thinking of the work he's always doing?"
The bouncer looked embarrassed at this interaction. "My apologies Mr. Coriolanus. I meant no offense, please please come on in with your party." He shuffled his list away and opened the door wide for the trio to make their way inside. Alole walked in, head held high without saying another word to the bouncer and Quirk and Dragoo followed suit not looking at the bouncer.
The doors closed behind the three Tark'ee and the glory of the club washed over them, warm and filled with incredible vibes for them. Alole grinned from ear to ear and Quirk nudged into him with her shoulder. "INCREDIBLE!" Dragoo laughed too- "I can't believe that actually worked!" Alole lowered his head and lowered his voice "Mission Control- we're in. Next stop? The dance floor!" And bounded towards the mass of bodies bopping on a floor that lit up with rainbow colors as they stepped on it. Quirk let out a surprised laugh and took off after him, ready to party. Dragoo smiled and headed towards the nearer bar himself. He was just happy to be in out of the cold.
