Some things about this species
Name: Thlaxx
Sex: They’re not sexually dimorphic and in fact, they are a genderless and sexless society. They/them pronouns are generally used all around unless a situation would demand some other pronoun such as there being no translation of they/them in another species’ language.

Reproduction: They reproduce through a cell fusion similar to splicing and all younglings are essentially grown in tubes.
Early life stages: They’re fully aquatic when born and must develop lungs, effectively making them amphibians. The “tubes” they are grown in are more like aquariums. Even into adulthood though, they remain excellent swimmers.
Adulthood: A full grown Thlaxx has a few distinct features: -No visible sex features -a long neck -sleek skin that ranges in color from deep purples to green, wit most of them falling somewhere in the blue range -Extremely strong tentacles of varying lengths that serve as legs and their main source of mobility -A mask.
Their skin color varies, as does tentacle length, and hand structure. While they all have longer fingers than humans, the length is subject to change, as is the number. They all have thumbs, but can have anywhere from 2 to 6 fingers (not counting the thumb) with most having 3.
Culture: Thlaxx rarely reproduce as most consider it unnecessary and aren’t interested in creating more of their species. Thlaxx younglings are taken care of as groups or “schools” by a handful of caretakers per generation. There is a huge emphasis placed on science in their society. Traveling off world on any scientific quest or mission is highly praised, and conducting research is one of the main and most popular job of their society. They have state of the art labs and equipment and place great pride on the amount of scientific discoveries and breakthroughs they as a species have discovered, as well as incredible things they’ve invented. They trade equipment and Supplies with neighboring planets for food and luxury goods. Their own planet consists of much water and swampland and they have a few groups of dedicated hunters and farmers who provide about half of the food the planet consumes, thus they rely on trading. They’re not warriors by any means but they are naturally stronger than many bipedal species (Though they themselves are not bipedal, but can pass for one if needed) Hiding one’s emotions and identity has been ingrained in their society and thus they all craft and wear masks as they grow into adulthood. The masks also double as air filters as their sky is heavily polluted. The masks of Thlaxx who travel off world are typically modified to adjust the air on whichever planet they visit, to air that is breathable to them. It would be seen as the highest dishonor to remove a Thlaxx’s mask, or to have their mask removed. Not only could it be life threatening due to them being used to breathe, but it is also the worst punishment they could receive.

Tsaw in particular is an inquisitive scientist enthralled with this planet and seeking to learn more about the colony and help it thrive. They're good natured but can come off as cold sometimes.
