By now, it seemed more likely for a harvest to fail than succeed. Woodland sighed, rolling her eyes as a timid Bloo asked her to go forage some extra mushrooms. Honestly, Woodland had already accounted for it. A lot of new members joined since the last harvest, and because of that it had seemed obvious that they'd need to make up for the difference in food needed.
As she got ready to leave, strapping various bags across her body and gathering up some tools, three curious heads popped up behind her, clearly trying to hide behind some crates. She recognized them immediately, and found she wasn't surprised that these three specifically had followed her around. Encounter, Witness, and Seize on the other hand seemed to have thought they were being sneakier than they actually were.
Woodland smiled at them gently. She didn't mind the set of whelps much. "Would you ah- like to come along? I could use some extra sets of paws." The whelps seemed taken aback by this. Even though they were some of the oldest in the nursery, they still weren't usually taken outside of the Colony's main area, unless planned ahead of time. Still, Woodland was sure Roam and Fawn wouldn't mind. They had their hands full with their own litter, after all.
The whelps squealed with excitement, immediately happily agreeing to come along. "you'll have to go ask Roam while I prepare some bags for you lot then, alright? Just go ask and then meet me back here." With that, the kids had bolted back where they came from, knocking down a few of the haphazardly stacked boxes as they went. Woodland was sure that Roam and Fawn wouldn't say no to having less whelps to look after, and was quickly proven right when the three whelps dashed back into the room a few minutes later.
"Roam said we can join you!" Witness chimed up excitedly.
"Yea! But only if we behaved well!" Seize added.
---
The three whelps were surprisingly well behaved. Woodland had given them a quick description of what she was looking for and they seemed happy just looking for the mushrooms. All three seemed to love digging the mushrooms up, Encounter especially, and were covered in dirt now. Woodland sighed as she realized the three would probably need a bath before Roam would let them back in the nursery at all.
"It's about time to head back home." Woodland muttered, mostly to herself, as she noticed the sun starting to set. She was surprised by how much they had gotten done. Witness and Seize had been excellent at finding the mushrooms, and made quite a good team with Encounter digging them up. Woodland's bags had quickly filled up, and the whelps had all seemed delighted at that, especially since that meant they got to carry some of the mushrooms themselves..
"C'mon guys, time to head home!" she called out to the whelps, who quickly ran back to her side, making various complaints about having to go home already, making Woodland chuckle as she guided them back to the colony. "You guys can look for more on the way back."
