Groaning, Woodland hesitantly stepped forward, pushing away ferns and other leaves as she did. The jungle was pretty densely populated with plant life, and overall wasn't a place where DPIP, or colonies for that matter, went for a visit. This made her all the more glad that Hivoo and Levi had come along with her. All three colonies had been looking for the same thing, a sort of gem that could only be retrieved from the heart of a tree deep within the jungle.
"Ugh." Leviathan groaned from behind them. Woodland glanced back, and instantly didn't envy the giant Tark'ee. Her horns had gotten caught in some hanging vines, not for the first time today, and Hivoo was trying desperately to reach up high enough to cut them off.
They had been travelling for quite a while now. The initial plan was to split up when they got deep enough in the jungle, but they soon realized that this wouldn't be safe in the slightest. All three colonists struggled with various bits of the unusual terrain, and it was much easier to stick together, help each other out, and gather three of the gems together than to try and rush it and end up with someone injured- or worse, of course.
Hivoo managed to get Leviathan free again, and looked at Woodland hopefully "Anything over there?" they had only found one of the gems so far, and they had agreed to find three before all heading back home, since otherwise a fight between the colonies might ensue.
Woodland shook her head. "Nothing, unfortunately. We should be getting close, though!" They had already been wandering the area for a bit. A few kind native had pointed them in the direction of where the gems usually grew, and had described the area around it. They had been getting closer, more and more of the plants that the natives had described appearing around them.
"I think it's that way," Woodland pointed. Hivoo frowned "It looks like there might be a cliff there. We'll have to be careful, with all these plants it might be hard to see where the cliff starts."
Leviathan nodded, as Woodland started walking towards the cliff, trying to feel it out. "Hmmm... Levi, maybe you can use your tail to see where the edge of the cliff is?" she thought out loud as she pushed some more plants away, gasping as she managed to look over them down the cliff "There it is!" She reached for her toolbelt, grabbing a spyglass of sorts. "And it's got two gems!"
Levi came over, carefully manoeuvring to not get caught again, with Hivoo following closely behind her. Hivoo seemed excited as Woodland passed her the spyglass to have a look for herself. "Whoa! There's definitely at least two- I think I might even see a third one!"
Leviathan was careful backing up to the end off the cliff, tapping her tail on the group to try and see where the drop started. Eventually, she felt her tail drop further than expected, and she carefully turner around to assess the situation. "Hmmm...." she squinted, looking down. "It doesn't look too tall. I could probably hop off the cliff."
The group discussed it for a bit, and Levi than descended the rockface. She looked around a bit, before calling back up "It's too high for you guys to jump down, but I can probably bend over this tree some, and you guys can climb across the branches."
Woodland looked at Hivoo, hesitantly, who shrugged. "If you think it's safe then go ahead!" she called down.
The trees around this area were strange and bendy- something the colonists had figured out a while ago. While this also made climbing them harder at times, the trees quite easily bending and even snapping under the weight of the colonists, if you were careful they were quite useful when navigating across the forest.
Luckily, the two Tsabhua managed to climb down without much of an issue. The rest of the walk to the trees they had spotted earlier went without much issue, and when they got there their eyes widened in awe. The jungle was beautiful here, and the gems they had been looking for shone beautifully from the hearts of the trees.
"We did it!" Hivoo said, happily holding the gem she had just managed to pry out of the tree. "I knew we could do it!"
Woodland celebrated with her, turning the gem around in her hands, in awe of it's beauty. Even Levi had seemed excited, although Woodland wondered if she was mostly just excited to be able to return home. At this point all of them were excited to turn back home and have a nice rest.
The three quickly made their way to travel back out of the jungle, and parted ways happy with all that was accomplished.
