After finishing their lunch, Nathalia revealed the next location. A grove of seemingly ancient trees hugging one of the mountain sides. She had explained that these trees were renowned for their flexibility and strength. The trees, towering and majestic, seemed to touch the sky.
"These trees have stood for centuries," Nathalia said, her voice full of wonder. "They provide excellent wood, but cutting them down would mean it can never be harvested again, It'd take centuries for them to regrow."
Reach frowned "Then how do we get the wood without cutting them down."
Nathalia frowned, as if the answer was obvious. "We take the branches and fallen trees on the ground, of course. You, me, and Judge can collect branches, and Guide and Seal can start chopping the big logs into smaller chunks."
Seal frowned "Won't the wood already on the ground be weaker? We won't be able to use it like that."
the pink Tsabhua frowned a little "It's just as strong. You might need to work with it some more, but that's better than felling the trees."
Seal nodded "That... makes sense actually."
The group gathered the wood, carefully selecting pieces that met their needs. Guide knew that they needed various bits for furniture, and that this wood would be a perfect fit.
By late afternoon, their packs were filled with the resources they had come for. They had herbs, minerals, and wood – all gathered with care and respect for the Rekes mountains.
As they made their way back to the port, the sun began to set, casting a golden glow over the mountains. The crystals sparkled in the twilight as if saying goodbye to their visitors.
Back at the port, the group sat down for one final chat together sharing a meal. Guide looked at Nathalia, gratitude shining in his eyes. "Thank you, Nathalia. Your guidance has been invaluable. We've learned so much from you."
Nathalia smiled, her expression warm and content. "I'm glad I could help. Remember, the Rekes mountains will always be here, and you are more than welcome so long as you respect them and the Xunari living here."
"It's hard to leave this place," Guide said quietly, her voice filled with a mixture of awe and melancholy.
Nathalia smiled at her gently. "I truly do love my home. I'll be happy to host you next time you're here."
The stars twinkling in the night sky, the colonists decided to head back home. "We can't thank you enough for everything you've done. If you ever need us, Nathalia" Reach started while boarding the boat "You know where to find us. Your guidance has been invaluable. We owe you one for sure."
Nathalia nodded. "It was my honor. Remember to always respect the land, and it will provide for you in ways you cannot imagine."
Seal, suddenly stepping forward, handed Nathalia a small token he had brought along – a beautifully crafted pendant. "Consider this a gift from our colony. I made it back at home, and have been hoping to sell it, but you are far more deserving of it than some random shop keep."
Nathalia seemed surprised at this, hesitantly accepting the pendant. "Thank you so much- that means a lot to me. I'll wear it with pride."
Judge reached out to hug her. "Bye, Nathalia. We'll miss you a bunch, come over for a visit sometime."
Nathalia returned the hug warmly. "And I will miss you all. Safe travels, my friends."
With one last look at the stunning landscape, the four Xunari all boarded the ship they arrived to the region on. Nathalia watched them go, feeling quite proud of herself for guiding the colonists along.
