It had been a while since Crown and Finn had gone mining in Rekes. The supply of crystals they had brought home had been enough for a while, but eventually various other colonists had requested more of the material.

On the ship to Rekes, they had stumbled upon two other miners, Isaac and Jaelor, who were also going to Rekes to mine. Crown had instantly noticed some of the blue belemoid's fur being a tad rough near his ribs- maybe a recently healed injury? The other Xunari was a white and brown Tsabhua, who honestly didn't look like the most experienced miner. Maybe a stand in for another injured colonist? Either way, Crown had decided it wasn't really his business regardless.

Finn had done some chatting with them, and had invited the two over to go mining in a group, splitting all resources in the end. Especially Isaac seamed quite pleased with the offer, fidgeting nervously while travelling. Luckily for most of them, it wasn't long until they arrived in Rekes, getting off of the boat at a small port near one of the mines. They'd have a bit to travel to actually get to the entrance, but that was nothing any of them couldn't handle.

---

As the four started mining, Crown couldn't help but hear an odd, low rumble. Like something big moving. She shrugged it off as something she imagined at first, but eventually decided to bring it up with the rest.

"Do you guys hear that?" she said, addressing the group. Finn shook her head "Nothing but the regular sounds of mining. Maybe you're hearing the carts? Mine keeps rolling back. Probably time to get it repaired." Crown shook her head, "No it's something bigger." Isaac and Jaelor gave her some odd looks, making her sigh "I guess it's nothing." The other three shrugged, and returned to the task at hand.

But Crown still hear the noise as they went on. A low rumble- almost like something moving? It kept getting louder too, and she saw that eventually Finn also seemed to be looking around, trying to find it's source- Isaac and Jaelor chatting to each other while mining a small distance away.

Crown frowned. Surely it wasn't just her hearing it. She walked up to Isaac and Jealor again- noticing that the noise did seam way louder on their side of the cavern. Frowning, she looked around. Her eyes eventually landed on the side of the wall Isaac and Jealor had been mining on, suddenly spotting strange holes on the ground. That was- odd.

Gesturing fin over, who had been carrying a lantern, she peered into the holes. She couldn't quite see how deep they went, but they confused her nonetheless. As finn brought the torch over, though, the rumbling got louder, and as Crown looked into the hole, a deep abyss stared back at her. Shocked, the young Tsabhua grabbed Isaac's leg, yanking him backwards- watching Finn do the same to Jealor, probably connecting the dots at the same time.

As the two Xunari were yanked backwards- dropping their tools, cracks started to form in the floor. As the cracks grew, more bits and pieces of the rocks they had been using as floors disappeared into the abyss. Jealor and Isaac didn't have time to be offended at being grabbed, instead quickly scrambling backwards with Finn and Crown.

As the dust settled, the four Xunari sat there for a bit, all a little bit shellshocked. "Uh-" Isaac started, "Thank you for- that." Crown nodded. "Sorry about your tools." Finn offered, making Crown, too, realize that the tools would have fallen. "We can see if we can get them back?" Jealor and Isaac both looked at the newly formed ledge cautiously. "Uh, you can try if you'd like?" they proposed, and Finn carefully scooted over.

As she got closer, she quickly realized what had happened. They had been mining above a cave the entire time, and the further they had gone, the more unstable their ledge had become. The noise that Crown had heard were probably the sounds of their floor starting to crumble. The cave below, however, was too deep to be able to go fetch the tools without additional safety- even though Finn could see them right there.

She reported this back to the others, who still seemed a fair bit stunned. "Maybe we should leave it at that today?" Isaac offered, clearly a bit more shaken than the others. Jealor nodded. "We can come back tomorrow? We should- probably report this, too." he said. Finn nodded. "I think there were some rooms for rent in the town," Crown pointed out "We can come back tomorrow. I should have some climbing gear, too. We can revaluate over a cup of tea, and go fetch your stuff tomorrow." with agreeing murmuring from all, the four headed back out of the mines for the day.
