As Koi opened the door to her greenhouse, instantly getting hit by the scent of ripe berries. She moved around the small room, careful not to knock over any plants. She had worked hard to get the greenhouse to where it was now- and hoped that it would help the colony many years to come.
She quickly reached the end of her greenhouse- where she had been trying to grow the same bushes she had seen when she had gone out on her trip with Siris. She recalled the memory with fondness as she gently pushed aside the young bush's leaves to see how the berries were doing. Perfect! They looked about ready to harvest, and the realization instantly made Koi beam with pride.
She quickly checked up on the fruit tree saplings next to the bushes. They hadn't been growing as fast as she's hoped, and Koi theorized that the more moist climate of L'hatzif might have something to do with it. Nonetheless, however, they were growing which was really all Koi was asking for.
The same couldn't be said for the succulents. Propagating them from specimens found in Issiq had proved to be a challenge in the first place, and the few plants that had taken root seemed to be rotten more than growing, several already having turned into degusting piles of goop that could only serve one purpose: to be turned to compost.
A few plants from L'hatzif were also growing there, mostly mushrooms, obviously. The mushrooms had been growing like crazy, and Koi had been lazily experimenting on them- not harvesting them yet since the colony had plenty of mushrooms stored up anyways. She had always wondered how big some of the wild mushrooms could get, so she considered this her time to strike.
So far the tallest one had been nearly twice as tall as any wild mushrooms they had found, and the colony's gatherer's had Ooo'd and Aaa'd as Koi proudly showed it off- only to have found it snapped in half a few days later. Koi supposed that there was a reason the wild mushrooms never grew that tall.
She quickly grabbed the basket that she had hidden under a table for this exact occassion and gently started picking the berries off of the little bushes. There were only a few, and all of them were very small. Smaller than Koi had expected, which meant she might have to see if she should change the conditions in the greenhouse some more. Still, tasting one curiously, it tasted fine, maybe even sweeter than any wild berries she had previously found. Pleased with herself, and having picked all berries from the bush, Koi decided to follow up with her plan of giving the rest of the berries to Bloo, to show her gratitude for giving her opportunities to learn.
As Koi emerged from the greenhouse she looked around the clearing. Bloo had to be around here somewhere. He had been the one to encourage her to start with the greenhouse, and also the one to make the greenhouse. Or at least to have it made, Koi wasn't sure if she'd trust her parental figure enough to construct an entire building, to be fair.
She eventually spotted the blue Belemoid walking a bit further away, talking to Seymore. Koi didn't hesitate to run up to him, basket of berries still in her hands.
As soon as Bloo saw Koi come running at him he nodded to Seymore "We can continue this later, I'm sure we'll figure something out. Just gotta make sure it's sooner rather than later." Seymore nodded back "Those look good, Koi!" he praised, before wandering off in another direction as she muttered her thanks.
Bloo looked at the basket with twinkling eyes "Did these come from the greenhouse we built?" Koi nodded "I planted them ages ago, when we first built it. I wanted to give you the first things we harvested from there." she chuckles "I'm glad the succulents from Issiq didn't finish growing first. We wouldn't have a use for them anyways."
Bloo smiled at her "Let's bake them into a nice pie together, then." and the two walked off, chatting happily.
