Depths, Ambergris, and Sky had been traveling to L'Hatzif to scout out some possible ore deposits when a hurricane had struck.

The rain had smashed into the towering fungi as the wind had screamed past the seams in the house they were sheltering in. Through the rain running down the glass, the swamps outside were flooding with the storm surge, and the elevated state of the home started to make a lot more sense. The other occupants, those who lived here, hadn't seemed perturbed by the wind and rain and crash of thunder, but Ambergris kept eyeing the walls suspiciously. Would the mycelium be strong enough to withstand the tempest..?

Depths pinned his ears back when Ambergris asked and told ae to talk to the inhabitants here, while Sky pretended to be calm despite fluffing up at every crack of thunder.

When they had emerged after the storm, the house still intact, they found that the aftermath was both better and worse than they had expected. Ambergris was mildly surprised that the mycelium constructions were still standing, while both Sky and Depths winced over the clear damage visible.

Those who lived here seemed almost cheery, however - they said the hurricane hadn't been a bad one, that nobody's roof had been torn off, among other things. Sky had gone mildly green at this, and so Depths had asked if there had been anything they could to do help while Ambergris tried to step on his tail to register aer protest.

The belemoid considered, and eyed Sky's wings appraisingly. "We could use someone to scout damage from the air… the nice thing about using the fungi is that they grow back. The other two of you can help us pack the damage with growth medium."

Sky nodded good naturedly and took to the air, circling over the small village to spot damage on the roofs or in places hard to see from the ground.

"You know what 'growth medium' is, right?" Ambergris muttered to Depths as the belemoid walked out of earshot. "It means shit."

Depths ignored the ire in the cranky tark'ee's voice. "You'll survive."

Ambergris groaned in disgust. "You owe me."

Thankfully, growth medium turned out to not mean shit. Or at least, it was a final product far removed from it's roots. It still didn't smell pleasant, but it was much better than shoveling manure. Ambergris didn't stop grumbling as ae packed it into the holes in the walls of the building, and Depths tuned aer out.

Sky, above, had pointed out damaged roofs to some others coordinating the repairs, and was lifting temporary patches into place. His wings beat furiously as he lugged the awkward components on to the top of the houses, throwing up small splashes of water from the flooded streets below.

After all the cracks and holes were patched with the growth medium, Ambergris and Depths helped the others lug lattices into place. It would encourage the mycelium to grow in the right spot and patch the hole instead of growing all over the place. It was tough going, since they had to drag the lattices over, shove them into place, and then hold them steady as they were attached.

"I am moving to the left," Ambergris muttered under aer breath next to Depths as a spotter called out instructions. Depths just sighed. Ambergris did good work, but ae complained and complained the entire time.

Sky, on the roofs, was holding the top steady, and even he was looking worn out by the time most of them had been set in. The three took a break in the shade of one of the large mushroom trees, sipping provided water gratefully.

"My muscles are so sore…." Ambergris moaned, spread out on a dry spot of deck.

Sky raised his head slightly and quirked an eyebrow. "You don't have another set of limbs to be sore."

Depths knocked on the wood and pointed at Sky for emphasis. All of his arms and legs were shaking with exhaustion.

"Oh, I get no sympathy here," Ambergris complained, but mercifully shut up.

The belemoid from earlier came over and nodded at them. "Good work so far! Your help means a difference. Ready to do some more-?"

At the trio of groans, the belemoid laughed.
