Burn had become a young adult, and he wanted to use his considerable strength for the betterment of his colony. Taiah, who he looked up to, had become a doctor with her smarts so she could help everyone, and even Whimsy, who was kind of a mischief maker, had joined the thieves guild- a little dodgy perhaps, but it used her skills and contributed to their lives on Othermoons. Slowly but surely, the little colony was growing and thriving. Burn wanted to be a part of it! He hoped to have a family one day and a bunch of children, so he wanted them to have a nice healthy colony, and for himself to be useful in it so his children and ... wife? husband? cute nonbinary partner? Well, so whoever he ended up with, would be proud of him.

He felt like the best thing would be to become a miner. He wasn't clever in the same ways as his friends, and wasn't good enough at lying to be a thief for sure, but he had every faith in his strength. He was big and he had a lot of muscle, and in some ways his lack of limbs made him even more powerful because of how he had to use his muscles just to get around and move normally. So off he went to a mining camp for training.

Once there, the first person he met was Jericho, an older Tsabhua. This gruff, mature male with his big shock of hair and his no-nonsense manner immediately appealed to Burn. If you were to ask the Tark'ee, he would probably have said that while of course his rough beginning was upsetting, he'd had his friends, and they'd come through it together, and he was fine and happy now. It was mostly true, but he was a very sensitive soul and without his consciously realizing it, he'd really longed for a father figure. Almost immediately in his mind, Jericho began to fill that void. He seemed so masculine and cool! Burn found himself following Jericho around, trying to copy his mannerisms, which was amusing given the difference in their size and shape. At first, Jericho was a bit nonplussed at this behemoth of a young adult acting like a preteen little brother. But with repeated interactions the younger (but larger) adult's sincerity and enthusiasm started to seem endearing rather than puzzling. Without really meaning to, he began to more or less submit to de facto adopting an adult son.

The apprentice teacher was Freezerburn, a Tark'ee who seemed to have an extensive knowledge of caves and rocks. Thankfully, she was also patient, because the sensitive Burn crumbled under too much critique (or too harsh). With time, he gained in skill and confidence, culminating in himself and Jericho getting to take on a rock-clearing project with very minimal supervision.

Burn began to really feel as though he were coming into his own. With Freezerburn and Jericho teaching him and his skills being honed, he felt better about his own skills than ever before. Mining had been the best decision for his future, he was sure of it.
