Sweetpea hated this idea.
Cacao had caught her bullying the colony's whelps and now she was stuck, having to remove the rats from the shed alongside the two idiots - Wild Child and Pumpernickel.
It was a windy day as the cold breeze came down from the snowy mountains near their colony's base. The air was crisp and fresh - what a shame she had to spend this day in a shed. It was freshly after rain, the dew from grass wetting her paws. The air was fresh, humid and carried the cool scent of the rekke trees. It could've been the perfect day for relaxation. Alas, it had to be wasted - hunting for rats.
"Ugh, what kind of a Queen is that?!" She complained aloud. "You'd expect that a Queen would ask for some rare beast you have to travel to the other side of B'av to hunt but no - she eats pests?!"
"Technically speaking, this is better for us, no?" Pumpernickel shrugged at her complaints. "We don't have to waste time and resources to find prey fit for her, and we will be getting rid of our own pests, right, Wilde?"
"Yep! And we don't even have to get our hands dirty - I have prepared traps. Wild Child replied, gesturing to the bag Pumpernickel was carrying in his hands. "We will just have to set them up and wait, so that at least the Huldah will be fresh"
"Honesty, what the heck did you even prepare as the Huldah bait?" Sweetpea asked, pointing at the bag that was hanging from her neck. "It smells weird"
"But it should lure them all in no time!" He reassured her. "I've read everything about Huldah and prepared a bait from a bunch of things - we might not like the smell, but they might do"
"Well, we're here so it's better if we speak quietly now," Pumpernickel announced, stopping in front of the shed's door. "Or else we might scare the Huldah, right, Wilde?"
He looked at the rust bull with a smile, at which Wild Child nodded, smiling back at him. Great, so now she was going to be third wheeling as they exchange intriguing facts about rodents as a form of bonding? Maybe she could just help set up the traps and leave…
((The shed didn't look inviting as well - made of old wood and looking like it would fall apart any minute. As the three entered, it was mid-dark there, with the only source of light being the sunlight creeping through the cracks between the wooden planks. Sweetpea had to admit that it did smell like a rat made a comfortable nest there, only making her want to get out even more. She eyed the gardening tools that were standing in the shadowy corner, as well as some spilled bags of gardening soil. Wilde really could clean up in there a bit…"
"Watch out don't step in the-" Pumpernickel has suddenly warned her, blocking her path in her way.
"I have my own eyes, you gray block!" She hissed at him, yet noticed that the Tsabhua was right to stop her. One more step and she would have stepped into - possibly the Huldah's - droppings. "Ugh, I swear if the Queen Rats-Breath won't like these rats-"
"Shh!" Wilde pressed a finger to his mouth, shushing her. "You're going to scare them away!"
"Isn't that kind of the point?" She rolled her eyes, taking off the bag off her neck and putting it down on the ground. "You don't want to have rats rummaging through your shed, Flower Boy? Right?"
It seemed that he did want the rats rummaging through his shed, looking at the fact that both Wild Child and Pumpernickel have given her a disapproving glare. In response, Sweetpea gave them her own disapproving glare as well, clearly showing them that no, she didn't want to be there with them. The Tark'ee decided that she was not going to be helpful and looked around to find a spot where she could sit and do nothing. With a few quick jumps, she climbed onto a wooden ball right under the shed's roof and laid down, outstretching her front legs.
The two bulls were doing just fine without her help! She could see how Pumpernickel gave her a disappointed glare from time to time, to which she pretended to look at her claws instead of giving him her attention. Wild Child has set up his traps in no time, using his strange, homemade bait. Sweetpea wondered if it really would work on the Huldah like he said it would. The two Tsabhua bulls have moved to their hiding places and thus came the worst part.
Waiting.
This entire moment was stretching out painfully, without even one sign of a Huldah showing up. She knew that this was a waste of time, yet whenever she wanted to move from her spot, she felt Wilde's eyes on her. The Tark'ee was well aware that she was testing his patience - or Pumpernickel's, but she did not want to know what would happen if she actually used up all of his patience. Thus, she has waited, feeling as if she was staying in this smelly shed for days, with a punch of rat poop and two idiots she was forced to work with. She swore to herself that if a Huldah showed up, she would hunt it down all by herself without Wilde's stupid traps.
And there it was - she smiled as a creature with tiny ears and white, fluffy fur crawled out and started sniffing around. With that color, it was a perfect target. The little Huldah sniffed and rubbed its face with its paws, yet seemed to not approach the traps. In the meantime, Sweetpea prepared herself and when the time was right, pounced at the little rodent and trapped it underneath her paws.
The Huldah has squeaked loudly a few times, only to be silenced with the Tark'ee's sharp beak. After poking its lifeless body a few times, she looked at her two companions - Wilde and Pumpernickel - to see their reactions. They were mortified.
"Now there's no way we will catch any more of them! You scared them all!" Wild Child stomped at the ground.
"Ah, sorry - but they were just taking a bit too long." Sweetpea replied with a mischievous smile.
