The last few weeks have been hard for the colony and its inhabitants, the warm weather made it hard to do any kind of work outside, especially under the sun, the heat made them feel exhausted and out of breath, which in turn made their water supply start dwindling. Though news of the coming storms did cheer them up. Meuphyr and Lavender worked twice as hard, relieved, knowing that soothing cold rains would soon come, Midnight remained in her usual pace, as all she really wanted was to not work, and Latte always did her best, since she was small and inexperienced, she couldn't contribute much but was still happy to be a part of the team. Despite everyone's expectations however, the change in weather only served to make things worse, the air was still hot and when it did rain there were only brief drizzles of water that turned into smoke upon hitting the ground, making the ambient stuffy and even worse than before.
The colony's xunari were allowed one hour in the pond daily to cool down in between chores, the weather continued like this for a few more weeks until everything eventually started freezing, finally everyone would get the well deserved rest they initially expected. Cold, misty storms shyly appeared over the coming days, pouring a delicate coat of water over everything, Kitty instructed all of them to collect water from the rain, as it could be useful later, mostly for the future farm. After the storms had introduced themselves, they made a call to stay, it poured down almost every day. Meuphyr had begun waking up earlier than everyone every single day, he liked to go out and enjoy the calming droplets on his fur, sometimes he would wake up Latte by accident, which made her want to go out and spend time with him but she was too sleepy to do so, Midnight reprimanded him a couple times as she would also get woken up by him, he always promised her he would be more careful next time.
But after a while – just like the hot weather – it became a problem, the rain went from gentle storms to violent showers, drowning the vegetation, sweeping the patch of flowers recently planted by Latte. In the morning after, Lavender found her outside, weeping over the muddied ground, her big eyes filled with tears as she turned to face her tark'ee friend, nothing of her beautiful daisies were left except a few lone petals, Lavender threw one paw up to the sky, "DAMN YOU RAIN" she shouted.
It all really became an annoyance at night time, with the rain ferociously beating at their tents it was hard to get any sleep, everyone would wake up grumpy and sleepless in the morning, even the most cheerful folks, like Latte and Lavender, could not even hold up a smile. The sleeping quarters were very close to being almost non existent, with the violent downpours destroying the roofs, there were holes everywhere and leaks everywhere, the poor xunari were constantly soaked and complained all the time, mostly to their researcher - who had no control of the weather -, they just really wanted to let out their frustrations it seems.
The tents had been reinforced with metal sheets, it was temporary until the weather got better and they would have better working conditions, though on the other side it made the rain noises outside even louder, so if they weren't getting enough sleep before, they surely weren't getting any now. Flooding was also an issue, it never rained so much that it covered a whole tsabhua but the water did reach a few inches, when it lightly flooded, the water would get into the sleeping quarters and usually dragged small things away that weren't attached to the floor, every day someone lost at least one trinket. Midnight, for one, started nailing her belongings to the floor out of frustration for having to retrieve them when the flood died down, Lavender thought it was a great idea and starting doing that too, hammering down nails on everything she laid eyes on, she even considered taping her friends down so they wouldn't get dragged away, they quickly told her they weren't on board with that. An announcement soon came from the researcher kindly asking for the colonists to not nail things down.
After a few days of trying to rest and reinforced meals to give everyone strength, the xunari finally began building a proper shelter against the harsh weather, mushroom pillars were raised and a thick, waterproof cloth was tied tightly on them, they were all very tired from it but also very proud of themselves and decided one or two days of rest was a nice reward, after their life juices had been brought back to them, Meuphyr tried to raise efforts to build a small fortified barrier, that way if the area flooded again, it wouldn't enter their camp. Lavender happily agreed, trotting to be alongside Meuphyr, Midnight not so politely refused and Latte, bright eyed, excitedly ran up only to be have a face full of Meuphyr's hands "Sorry Latte, you're too small and fragile, I don't want you potentially hurting yourself" "But you're letting Lavender help! She's a whelp just like mee" She responded back in an annoyed tone. "Yeah, but…" Meuphyr's voice faded and he avoided Latte's gaze, embarrassed, he didn't have any good excuses to give, and without waiting for a response, the little belemoid exclaimed "That's it, I'm coming with!" and started marching out into the wilderness, eyes closed and chin held high, with Lavender trotting after her. "W-wait! You really can't come- Latte!!" He anxiously shouted. From her recently dried tent, Midnight had been watching the quirky group, and rolled her eyes after witnessing Meuphyr's poor social skills.
