Content Warning: Detailed description of GROSS infected wound

Rozwel took a closer look at Devo's shoulder wound while Surena delivered the nsaids to Merra and Lairi in the waiting room. The wound was absolutely infected. There was pus on top, and green ooze lurched over the edge of the open skin, rolling down the side of Devo's front arm as Rozwel gently moved the skin with her freshly washed and gloved paws. The wound was circular, and while not large in diameter, it was deep. It was the right circumference for one of the hojenst tusks and peering into it, Rozwel could make out the different layers of skin and muscle beneath the surface- parts that should never see the light of day. Devo groaned slightly as Rozwel continued with her examination, despite her gentle touch.

Surena popped back into the room and Rozwel called out to her "grab three more of those pills and water and give them to Devo." Surena did as instructed, but had a question for the healer "But we only gave Merra two of the pills. Why does Devo get more?" Roswell continued her exam, checking over Devo's body for more wounds or signs of injury, but did answer the younger Tark'ee. "Though Devo is smaller than Merra, he's had a much more severe injury so he gets a higher dose than she does. The pills I had you give her are just to manage her pain until I can see her. We may end up giving her more as well, but we won't overdo anything."

Surena nodded, satisfied with the explanation. "Alright Surena, how's your stomach feeling today? Can you handle a bad smell and some gross fluids?" Surena looked nervously at the green ooze now pooling on the table. "Ummmm actually I'm not sure I can." Rozwel nodded. "That's okay. Thank you very much for telling me, I'd much rather you join Lairi and Merra in the lobby and keep them company, than have you feel ill or pass out from helping me." Surena nodded. "Thank you! Let me know when you're done with the really gross part!" She called back as she passed through the swinging door to join the tsabs in the lobby.

Rozwel hummed to herself as she set about her work. Though the wound was nasty, it wouldn't be hard to fix. "Alright Devo, you still with me?" The belemoid didn't move but did respond "yup. I'm here. When are these meds gonna kick in?" Rozwel sighed. "Hopefully soon. I'm going to flush out your wound because it's showing signs of infection and looks like it needs to be flushed prior to anything like sutures to ensure proper healing. Then I will add a couple sutures to help the healing process. It's a deep wound so I'm going to need you to stay off your feet for the next couple weeks, hear?" "Yes, got it, that's fine. Someone else can go hunting."

Rozwel nodded satisfied. "Now I'm going to start the flushing process. It might feel weird but hopefully won't be painful. If you need some local sedation, I can do that, but since it shouldn't be painful I'm going to see what we can do without it first. You tell me if you want the sedation, or if anything feels painful and not just odd." Devo affirmed the instructions and Rozwel got to work.

As she'd been speaking to the belemoid, she'd been preparing the flush with the sterile water. She drew up a large syringe that had no needle on it, and readied the flush. "I'm going to move you very carefully over the wet table so I don't make a mess with this. Don't worry, you just need to move a few inches so your shoulder is over the wet table.

With the situation set up, Rozwel flushed Devo's wound several times until no more pus came out, and she could just see the blood and organs inside. She then set aside her flush and began stitching up the wound, first the deeper layer. And then the outer skin layer. She cleaned up the area a bit and then popped her head back into the waiting room.

Surena, Merra, and Lairi were happily chatting in the waiting room, the older two regaling the younger with their hunting stories. Surena was wiggling her tail in excitement at hearing how they'd stalked the hojenst herd. The waiting room's large windows revealed a beautiful landscape behind the tsabs, adding a backdrop to their story, despite the colony being at the ocean instead of Mireh. The sunlight illuminated the ground where the sand faded away as the colony stretched away from strictly beach and towards dirt and rock. The beginnings of a garden could be made out- one lone seagul perching on a scarecrow in the garden, clearly unbothered by the attempted to deter wildlife. The buildings in this area were more constructed as the colony had started on solid ground and expanded towards the beach, always mindful of rising tides.

"Surena." Rozwel called out to the group. "I'm sure Merra and Lairi can finish their tale after we get Devo ready to go home. Come help me finish up back here." Surena said a quick goodbye to Merra and Lairi who responded in kind, content to continue waiting, and scurried to the back.

"We just need to put some ointment on his wound and apply a bandage. It's in a bad spot to wrap, but we're going to do our best." The two set about finishing Devo's treatment and helped him back to the waiting room to swap with Merra.
