Waste sighed, staring into the nukap pen. He had been asked to watch over the boars, in case they uprooted some more of the mushroom that Koi was looking for.

A few other whelps had found them a few days ago, and upon investigation Koi had declared that that more specimens would be appreciated for her investigations. To motivate the whelps of the colony to try and help out, she had promised that anyone bringing her more of the weird mushrooms got extra dessert that day.

Waste had been determined to find more of the odd mushrooms.

Bury had sat down next to him a while ago, but hadn't really said anything. They sat together for a while, quietly, watching the nukap root around in the dirt, until two of the other whelps popped up behind them.

"Hi guys!" Want called out, followed by Capture walking just behind him. "What're you two up to? Just looking at the nukap?"

Waste nodded. "I have been. I'm not sure what Bury is doing though?"

Bury blinked at him with confusion. "I was helping you. What did you *think* I was doing."

Waste shrugged. "You do weird things sometimes."

Bury rolled his eyes again, before looking at Capture and Want. "Were you guys also wanting to watch the nukap?"

The two Tsabhua nodded. "We were hoping they had some dug up by now." Capture peered over the fence. It didn't look like the nukap were doing anything in specific. While usually they were rooting around in the dirt, trying to find snacks, now they were laying on their side, peacefully snoring, as if they knew that for once the colonists *wanted* them to be digging around.

Want looked over and sighed. "We might as well go out and fine some ourselves."

The other three whelps looked at him.

"You might just have a point there..." Waste mused. "Maybe we can find more mushrooms in the forest! Let's go ask if we can look!"

---

Koi had, albeit reluctantly, agreed to give the whelps permission to go out and look for the mushrooms. She had reminded them to stay away from the wild nukaps though, whether they be single animals or sounders. It just wasn't safe for whelps to get close to them.

They had rushed outside as soon as they got the okay, giving Koi just enough time to put packs on all of them before they were out the door and into the fungal forest.

The weather was nice at this time of year, which only motivated the whelps further. The sunlight was less harsh, but still warmed their fur slightly as they ran trough the forest. Overall, the region was quiet, with a lot of animals being hunkered down to preserve their energy throughout the cold season.

"I can't find any!" cried Waste. "Did you get any, Want?" Want shook his head, disappointed. "Maybe only the nukap can find these. There is so much mud to dig around in, it's like looking for a needle in a haystack."

Bury groaned. He was covered in mud by now, and clearly wasn't happy about it. "Maybe we should just head home-" he suggested.

Waste shrugged. "I really want to find some... Maybe if we find somewhere where nukap *have been* it'll be easier."

The other whelps rolled their eyes, but still followed behind Waste when the belemoid ran off. Waste was out of their eyes for only a few seconds, but when they caught sight of him again he was on the ground next to Van Callis, a L'hatzif native, with the mushroom the group had been looking for strewn around the pair, with a broken basket laying besides it.

Van Callis didn't seem happy about the encounter, but still helped Waste up. "ugh-" Waste groaned. trying to pick the mushrooms back up and put them in the basket Van Callis had been carrying. "I am so sorry- you can have my pack if you'd like? I didn't mean to run into you like that."

The white and brown belemoid smiled tensely. "It's okay- it's just a basket, I can probably still fix it."

"This is why I always tell you to be more careful!" Capture scolded, coming up besides Waste and trying to help him pick the mushrooms up. It was no use, really, as the basket didn't have a handle anymore, and would be hard for the belemoid to carry without spilling.

Bury frowned at the situation- they might be able to get some of the mushrooms after all. He nudged Want, gesturing at the mushrooms on the ground. Maybe if they picked some up Van Callid wouldn't notice.

"He came out of nowhere, I swear!" Waste tried to defend himself, desperate to escape Capture's scolding. It was mostly in vain though.

"You broke his basket-" Capture started, only to be cut off by Van Callis soon after he opened his mouth. "It's okay, really. I can still hold it in my mouth- I'll just have to leave some of these mushrooms behind. You know what- you guys can have them if you'd like- but I really have to get going now, I was kind of in a rush. Enjoy the mushrooms!"

And with that, the Belemoid was off again. The group quietly collected the mushrooms, gathering them up in two Tsabhua's arms, They just had to hope Koi wouldn't questioned where they had gotten them.
