As Rose had predicted, Carus' methods of getting rid of the Huldah in the field turned out to be impressively ineffective. They had, by pure luck, managed to catch a single Huldah in the traps, but the rest had known what was up and avoided the traps entirely. This had frustrated Carus immensely, as he had been so confident that his plans would work.
Reach and Rose had listened to him complain to Morgain (trough one of the tablets that allowed the headquarters and outpost to stay connected), quietly snickering about it.
At the end, they managed to convince the Belemoid to just hand the task off to those who were better at it. Even though he was reluctant- determined as always to handle everything himself- he had eventually agreed that Rose, Reach, and Reckon were far better equipped to handle the whole situation.
Reckon had been ask to join the Mireh outpost recently, mostly to take care of any animal-related problems. As it turns out, most of the L'hatzari didn't really know how to deal with the animals around the Mireh plains. Reckon wasn't sure, too, having come from the bunker, but at least she didn't have to unlearn anything related to L'hatzif wildlife on top of getting familiar with the Mireh wildlife.
Reckon has arrived at the outpost late at night during a cloudy day. Reach and Rose had already been trying to just grab Huldah out of the field all day, but had to cut their efforts short because of a small storm passing trough. When Reckon had arrive though she had insisted that they go out again, at the very least to survey the now muddy fields.
"They're kind of cute though." Reckon mumbled, holding one of the Huldah up. The small creature was sitting comfortably on her paw, not seeming one bit bothered by what was happening. Reckon had somehow managed to pick it up out of the field without the creature squirming away.
Rose grimaced "You really thing so?"
Reckon just shrugged in reply, the Huldah deciding it had enough and scurrying off of her paw and back into the field.
"I know some people keep tame ones as pets." Reach replied. "Just not wild ones- they tend to be a bit more bitey, which isn't good for anyone."
"Not to mention the diseases." Rose grumbled.
Reckon shrugged again. "It's a bit irrelevant to this situation, isn't it?" she looked out over the field, squinting. "Hmm... I think we might be best to start off by digging out their burrows. We can probably catch a few of them like that, and hopefully the others will run off."
Rose nodded. "That might also give us more insight about what else is going on in the field." Reckon added thoughtfully. "I hear the weather should be good tonight. We should be able to start tomorrow, if that's the case."

The next day, the three were sat in the field, trying their best to track down any Huldah burrowed into the earth. Reckon would find the burrows, and dig them out, while Reach and Rose would snatch up any Huldah trying to make an escape, dropping them in cages to be dealt with later.
There was a surprising amount of Huldah hiding out in the field. Reckon wasn't all that surprised, since the field was in a nice location, close to the water and also close to a field of wild wheat that any Huldah would be delighted to snack on. The work was surprisingly light, especially since they had decided early on not to chase after any stray Huldah that managed to squeeze our of their grasp.
At the end of the day, when Rose and Reach were chatting to each other besides the cart, Reckon looked into one of the cages with Huldah. Inside sat the one she had seen yesterday, the one that climbed into her palm and sat there all cutely and without a sign of aggression. She sighed, grabbing the small cage off of the cart. She supposed she could do with a new roommate.
Rose definitely gave her an odd look as they started pulling the cart back to the outpost. Reckon couldn't bring herself to care, though.
