Woodland certainly hadn't felt great about killing the Hojenst. Still, what had to be done had to be done, she supposed. She felt less guilty after Snap and Quartz had turned the carcasses into a wonderful soup later that week, after carefully harvesting the pelts and other useful parts off of the animals. She felt at peace knowing that, at the very least, the animal's death had purpose.
It was the day after they had the stew that Snap approached the three, wringing his hands nervously. "Ah, Sorry but- Quartz asked me to ask you if you could ah- help us with another little... problem."
Woodland looked at Koi and Rose, they were sat together across from her at an worn wooden table that the colony had found on the side of the road, who both shrugged. They didn't have anything else planned untill they made their way back to the colony's headquarters in L'hatzif, so there wasn't really a reason to deny a simple request.
"Well- you see, some Jaebo have been making an absolute mess of the garden we've been growing."
Woodland sighed, already knowing where this was likely going.
"And- well, you know how they breed. Quartz and Citrine were hoping you could help us- well, get rid of them. We've tried ourselves but... Well, they're small and quite quick, so they have mostly escaped from us."
Koi nodded. "We can probably take care of it before we leave- they're small, so it should be less effort than the Hojenst were, right Rose?"
Rose had ended up doing the hardest work with the Hojenst, and had been surprisingly (and in Woodland's opinion eerily) good at taking the bovines down. She had claimed having some experience hunting them where she had lived previously, which had struck Woodland as odd since she had thought the Tsabhua moved to L'hatzif from Issiq- where Hojenst didn't live much to her knowledge.
Rose nodded. "They should be fairly easy to trap. We might be able to bait them using a trap, but since they have been in the gardens they might be too well-fed to be easily lured."
Snap nodded thankfully "I'll ah- leave that to you guys then!" he said, before walking away into one of the dimly lit halways to tell Quartz the good news.
Koi seemed to think it over for a bit. "I have to agree that trapping likely won't work, unless we play the long game."
Woodland nodded. At least she was less attached to Jaebo- mostly due to an incident when she was a whelp. She had been trying to harvest berries from a bush, and instead got a set of teeth in her hand. The bite itself had been- unpleasant, and the process of cleaning the wound and treating it even less so.
"Maybe we can try to chase them into a closed space somewhere- gather them up to make it easier on ourselves." Woodland suggested. "If we use some of the wire netting we can make a simple fence- and then we can dig a hole to chase them into. Hopefully once we start chasing them down they'll be too paniced and fall right in."
Koi seemed pleasantly surprised at the suggestion. "That seems like an excellent plan, Woodland. Does that work for you, Rose?"
Rose nodded. "Better than my plan of just chasing them down and hoping for the best. Should be safer, too, considering their spikes."
Koi nodded, sipping on a glass of water. "Best to head out as soon as possible. If things go wrong, we can always set traps- but we'd have to give it some time if we did, they'll probably be wary for a while, but they'd likely come right back after."
Woodland nodded along. She could hear the soft noise of raindrops against the windows, and wasn't entirely thrilled to have to go out in the rain. Koi had a point though, if they had to set the traps they'd need plenty of time to do so, so it was best to get their first attempt out of the way first.
"I think I saw some things we could use in the shed." she muttered. "That's probably a good place to start."
