Ash and Rubus strolled quietly along the familiar dusty path that led them into and through the busy Ochre Dockyard. It was midday and the sun was glaring down on the two tsabhua's, bouncing harshly off the grains of sand that were packed together to make the pathways and buildings of the dockyard. Rubus was growing tired of the gritty sand that rubbed his paw pads, though he would never complain to anyone. Ash found the glare of the sunlight off the bright ochre hues made his eyes turn and his head hurt from time to time. They had both continued their training under Quetzalcoatl and had begun doing regular shifts to help manage the patients at the hospital and continue to oversee and train during surgeries and other procedures - they were both coming along well and it would not be too much longer until they could both graduate and be considered full physicians.
The two males entered the hospital, squinting against the bright lights and stark contrast of the indoors until their eyes adjusted. Ash still would not get used to the bright beige walls that lined the interior of the dockyard hospital - sometimes he wondered how they had even managed it. Rubus wrinkled his nose at the sharp clean smell associated with the sterile building. Despite their minor grievances, both tsabhua's knew that this was the right specialisation for them and they would not change it for anything. They both continued through the personnel door to see where they were assigned today - sometimes they were assigned together, and sometimes they worked alone. It looked like today they would both be managing the patients that were currently staying at the hospital recovering from surgery or injuries. This was something that both Ash and Rubus quite enjoyed and felt confident with, and so they quickly delegated their tasks and grabbed their relevant equipment including masks before making their way through the corridors of the Ochre Dockyard hospital.
The hospital was set up with a dozen beds, all separated by cloth strung up on poles - it was the best you'd get for privacy, but most Xunari were either quiet or they were friendly and so there were very rarely issues. Ash walked up to his first patient and politely addressed them "good morning, is there anything I can get for you?" whilst checking the notes scribbled about the patient. The patient was one of the quieter ones and declined, whilst Ash checked their vitals and made sure that they were comfortable and stable. "Don't hesitate to let me know if you need anything" he told them once more, turning around as he caught a glance of Rubus. Rubus had begun with the same greeting for his patient, who requested some water which he quickly fetched. "Unfortunately the doctor has requested another blood sample" the black tsabhua informed the patient, who sighed but nodded. Rubus quickly and efficiently drew the blood that was necessary with no complaints from the patient. "Is there anything else I can do for you?" he offered, and the patient shook their head and thanked the tsabhua for his kindness.
Both males left their patients and walked side by side silently as they continued on to their next delegations. They continued on with their day, gently shaking patients awake to check their vitals and make sure that they had everything they needed, drawing blood from patients as required, and all in all most Xunari were polite in return. Ash and Rubus took it in turns fetching food and water, blankets, pillows, and doing their best to accommodate the patients in front of them and making them as comfortable as possible in what is usually a fairly uncomfortable environment. Neither tsabhua took much of a break other than occasionally grabbing some water for themselves. Despite being quiet colonists themselves, they held conversations with the friendlier Xunari - as both Ash and Rubus had seen with their own eyes that the creatures would recover quicker with a friendly and nurturing doctor treating them. It was clear that they had both gained an air of confidence around themselves.
As the day drew to a close, it began time to prep the patients for the evening switch over. Ash and Rubus continued to make adjustments as required such as turning on or off lights and lamps, pulling the cloth closed around the beds so that their patients could sleep, and scribbling notes for the doctors who would be looking after them for the evening. Despite the fact they were both growing tired, they continued with their good attitudes in ensuring their patients had everything they needed. As they said goodnight to their last few patients - some even that they had grown close to - Quetzalcoatl caught them before they left for the evening. "I am proud of you both, you treat your patients well" she praised them before they continued on their way home.
