Maypop is known for staring intensely at new things. She apparently does so because they're "beautiful".

This unfortunately includes other colonists, who often describe her presence as "strange and eerie", some even reporting ghostly presences where it's usually just her staring from afar.

May is also quite intelligent, and has a great memory. She may never speak, but she offers great help to the researchers nonetheless.
