Dawnbreaker was watching the herds one day when she found a whelp that had drowned in a stream.  Despite the cold water, the body was still warm.  Distraught by how close she had come to being able to save it, Dawnbreaker took the little blue whelp to Yayaloc and insisted he revive it.  Yayaloc warned her that it would not be easy, and the whelp would come back strange, if he came back at all.  Dawnbreaker insisted.  Yayaloc took the whelp away, and when he returned, his fur had turned a deathly gray and was streaked with blood-like red.  He was sickly, and quiet.  The other whelps were terrified of Revenant, and so he spends his time drifting at the edge of the colony.
