When was the last time he saw someone? The tan Belemoid panted in pain as he limped along, pulling his back leg along the lumpy ground. Mouse decided that maybe a long trip to L'hatzif would bring back fun loot. He had left his little apprentice behind this time, to keep her safe. Fair job thinking ahead.
He had heard most of these wild beasts would rather run than face an enemy but that didnt seem to be the case for this Shriiv. It had stood its ground as Mouse slinked by; wasn't even trying to hunt it; then charged his side. Caught his leg really bad with those horns and sent him for a tumble over the mushroom trunks and mosses. Luckily, it didnt try to chase him down, letting him get up on his own slow time.
Mentally addled and physically knocked around, Mouse moved his body in no particular way down no particular trail- pulling himself over fallen shrooms and under angled trunks when the need arose that his body could no long keep straight. When the soggy ground and wet moss became grainy and slightly harder, only then did his unfocused eye try to get a sense of where he might have ended up. This wasn't the hardened ground of the bridge toward Mireh… This was just an edge of the land. Blinking kept what ever pained sleep he was feeling away long enough to back away from the cliff edge and get far enough down the continuing trail before he went blind. Down his body went to the trail's sandy grit, it couldn't have been too long while in that forest… He had started that morning at the port…
He wasn't going to bring anything back at this point if he couldn't even wake up, but the pressure to his sternum kept his body flattened to so soft surface. A garbled voice mentioned something before he went back under the black quiet again. Next Mouse attempted to wake, the bright lights coming in through the lids was blotted out by quick moving forms; but nothing really concrete took shape until a white claw came close by, causing the brown beast to flinch. The claws closed quickly and retreated, returning with a small cloth for covering his eyes. Blind once more, but with a cooling rag across his face.
This time, when Mouse woke, the bright lights didnt hurt as much to try and get past- fully opening his eyes to take in what he could. This wasn't the path he had been on but a small room with a window, ocean a far away view….. That didnt make sense, The forest was so dense….
"…Ing…" Ears flickered to someone saying something and he had to tip his head to see past his feet, confused.
"I'll repeat: Good Morning." The blue beast came in to the room past the blowing curtains, a bucket on its side like a travel bag. "Welcome back to the waking realm. How are you feeling now?" It asked, stopping nearby to Mouse's front claws, releasing the buckets straps and changing a wet rag to his face. Something tried to form in his scratchy throat but just ended up slapping his teeth together and faced the window again.
"I see, I'll get some fresh water to drink after this. You gave us a scare when we found you…" The Blue ones voice stayed even as its white claws readjust the small blanket over his legs.
Oh, that brought the question to Mouse's brain as his dry throat tried to speak again and got nothing.
"Right; You back leg is broken and what ever stabbed you left a big hole near your spine. How you walked so far from where you were, I dont know? I can see why you got such a bad fever though." The bobtail beast stood again as a little face peeked in to the curtains.
"You might get some visitors, we dont meet a lot of people out this far from the Port. You can call me Rozwel, This here is Saylor. More might pop in. Dont pester them too hard, they are still recovering." Rozwel told the little blue face as its owner replaced the darker adult.
The little one said nothing as it stayed for most of the afternoon as Mouse did his best to try and talk again. Rozwel had returned as they said, with water and a small chunk of fish. Fish wasn't going to sit well but he did sip until the cup was empty. Saylor remained in the room with a smile until the sun left the window, where she waved and left.
It became a little retinue over the following days that Saylor came in with the good doctor, learning quietly about how to change bandages and poultice the wounds beneath. Other faces came in to see and say hi and once his dry throat was fixed, Mouse returned the quiet voices with his own. He learned he was on the far end of L'hatzif- total other end of the land of the port. He was Far from his way back home. He also learned that he was in and out for about three days. He didnt know how long he had traveled to get this far from the port on the leg that he had… but it was long and far.
When he was of any ability to limp again, Rozwel kept him in the sun for fresh air, and airing out the closing wounds. The sun was nice out here and the children were actually well behaved. At last he was able to get the ok that he could make the long journey back home, this time though, travel companions. Rozwel and his apprentice Saylor. They needed to get stuff at the porte any way, so it wasn't an un needed visit.
"Thank you for all the help, Rozwel."
"Dont be a stranger, Mouse, but make sure it is on better terms next time."
