Nova was helping to tend the aerobic in the colony's infirmary, and kept having to shoo the youngsters that had found them away. Sky, at least, was willing to sit quietly and help him bandage the small scratches on the aerobic and other small tasks. Parhelion had been away, being dunked into the bath by Rocky, but soon he had appeared to jump around the small infirmary, a resigned Whiteout following behind.
"Oh, can you stop that!" Nova worried as Parhelion hid under the aerobic's bed. "They're sleeping!"
Parhelion stuck his tongue out at him from under the bed, and Sky dove under to chase him out, hissing angrily.
"Shh!" Nova tried to shush the two whelps, while behind him, Whiteout stared wide-eyed into the aerobic's orange eyes.
"Hello," Whiteout said softly, ignoring the chaos behind them, mesmerized by their striking eyes. "What's your name?"
The aerobic's eyes flitted around, taking everything in, and winced as Parhelion yelled, being held up by their scruff as Nova scolded him in soft tones. Sky had stopped flitting around Parhelion and turned to the aerobic, then ran over in excitement.
"You're awake!"
Nova paused in his wrangling of Parhelion to look over and blink in surprise. He hurried over, bending down before the aerobic. "Do you need anything? Any food or water?"
The aerobic blinked at him blearily, then rasped, "Water."
Before Nova could even do so much as turn, Parhelion and Sky were fighting over the faucet about who would be able to bring them water.
"You can each bring them a cup!" called Nova exasperatedly, then turned to find Whiteout had gotten a waterbottle from somewhere and was proffering it to the aerobic, wide-eyed.
The aerobic took it from them and sipped from it gratefully, and both Parhelion and Sky triumphantly arrived with more water only to wilt in disappointment. Nova shook his head at them and took their glasses before they could spill, setting them on the table next to the bed in case the aerobic needed more.
"Cameron," the aerobic said after a few drinks, laying back onto the pillows.
"Cameron?" Questioned Parhelion, but Sky hissed at him.
"Their name, dirt-brains."
Parhelion tried to bite Sky, and Nova resigned himself to ignoring the two scuffling youngsters as he turned to Cameron and adopted a gentle tone, as Whiteout proffered snacks from… somewhere.
"Do you know where you are?"
Cameron's eyes darted around the infirmary - a ((simply built new part of Nova's colony, dug into the mountainside. The glowing crystals in the walls had been used to light parts of the room, though their soft glow was washed out by the warm glow of electric lights. A door lead out into the rest of the tunnels, and a few small windows were still covered by snow that hadn't melted yet."
"Rekes?"
Nova nodded, relieved to see that Cameron's mind seemed to be functioning well. "Yes, Rekes. You got caught in a bad storm - where did you come from."
"I…" Cameron frowned, retracing their steps. "I was coming here from L'Hatzif… I was going to take the costal route, but then the storm caught me and blew me over the bay." They shook their head slightly. "I kept flying as long as I could… I'm lucky I ended up here at all."
Whiteout made a soft distressed noise and more insistently pressed snacks on Cameron, while Parhelion and Sky had stopped wrestling to listen wide-eyed.
"That must've been SO scary!" Parhelion exclaimed, and Sky nodded, rivalry forgotten for the moment.
Nova frowned at them, then turned to Cameron, who was rather bemusedly taking the snacks from Whiteout. "Well, you're safe here now. Is there anyone we should send word to-?"
Cameron perked up a little, and swallowed a bite of the bar. "Yes - could you send word to Lumen?" They gave Nova the address, then settled back while Nova went to send the message.
When he came back, he found Parhelion and Sky asking Cameron a laundry list of questions while Whiteout sat there, looking unhappy.
"Shh!" Nova shushed the two rambunctious youngsters. "Can't you see they're tired? Come, let's let them rest. Tell Whiteout to come get me if you need anything alright?"
Cameron nodded and settled back down to sleep as he left with the youngsters, Whiteout looking very determined as they stood guard.
