Daago sighed, entirely displeased with the situation she had found herself in somehow. A quick agreement to watch a Tsabhua's whelps "for a little while" had suddenly turned into her taking care of two Tsabhua whelps for well over two weeks now.
Daago hadn't been sure what to do with Tail and Nose when their parent hadn't come back. Initially, she had only agreed to watch the whelps for just a little bit. The Tsabhua had claimed that they'd be back in an hour and left Daago with the two whelps early in the afternoon, but at the end of the day Daago had been forced to return home- and just couldn't bare the thought of leaving the whelps behind.
The two were timid- not saying much of anything and always replying in quick answers when asked a question. They were good kids though, and hadn't caused Daago an unreasonable amount of trouble. Of course, whelps being whelps, after a while they had occasionally left a toy- or something they had deemed a toy- somewhere on the floor, and while for most Xunari this wouldn't have been an issue, to Daago this posed a risk.
She wasn't fussed much at first, trying to figure out a plan to deal reunite the whelps with the parent that had seemingly abandoned them, until one day she tripped over something the two had left on the ground while she was carrying a knife. Luckily, she hadn't been hurt but it did make the truth rear it's head: Daago did not have the patience, nor room to take care of Tail and Nose permanently.
"Miss Daago, where are we going?" Tail asked, a hint of concern in her voice. Daago had asked the two to pack up all of their belongings, and while the two did so when asked without much complaint, Daago still heard their hushed whispers of concern to each other as they did so.
Daago smiled at them, trying her best to not make the experience too bad. "I found someone else to take care of you. They're gonna take great care of you, so don't worry about it."
Neither Tail nor Nose replied, although Daago was sure they'd be shooting eachother a concerned glance.
Luckilly, it wasn't long until Morgain and Cause made themselves known. "You must be Daago, then?" one of them, likely Morgain judging by their voice, asked.
Daago nodded "Yep, that'd be me."
A few days ago, Daago had been complaining to a fellow Issiqi about the situation a passer-by had interrupted. While it wasn't a Xunari Daago was familiar with, he still offered helpful advice, claiming that a L'hatzif colony was known for taking in Xunari that didn't have a home elsewhere. Despite her hesitant, Daago had thought that this ccolony would be her best chance for finding a hopefully permanent for the whelps. After having contacted them, the colony had immediately sent out two of their members to come pick up the whelps, much to Daago's relief.
Tail and Nose huddled behind Daago, trying their very best to stay out of view as Morgain and Carus while the adults chatted. The two sent each other a hesitant glance. Neither was really all that sure what was going on, but they quite liked Daago and didn't really want to leave her to go with the strangers.
"And these are the whelps?" Morgain asked, smiling at them. "I promise they'll have a lovely home with us." Cause added. Neither of the whelps seamed pleased, though, and Nose clung on to Daago's tail tightly. Morgain hesitated, looking up at Daago for help- Daago didn't seem quite sure what to do, either, though.
"I promise they'll be nice." Daago offered the whelps- which didn't seem to Nose, nor Tail.
Morgain made a thoughtful noise. "Well, that shouldn't have been unexpected, all things considered." he frowned, trying to figure out a way to convince the whelps to come with him.
"Maybe we can go get a snack first?" Cause offered, Morgain raised an eyebrow "I mean we're supposed to head back as soon as possible-" but was elbowed in the side by Cause. "We can get the whelps something nice to eat- get to know them a bit."
Daago was quick to catch on, and nodded in agreement. "That might be nice. Strangers can be intimidating, after all."
Morgain's eyes widened as he understood what they were trying to do- it would make sense that the whelps would feel more at ease after having spent some time with Morgain and Cause, after all. Maybe after a quick snack the two would be more accepting to the thought of going home with them.
They ended up at a small restaurant which served many of the dishes Issiq was known for. Cause clearly didn't mind the reroute, hapilly eating plate after plate. Morgain was a bit more concerned about returning home- Carus was waiting for him, after all- but made some pleasant conversation with Daago nonetheless.
Tail and Nose seemed more at ease, too. They were making a mess of the table- which Morgain was struggling not to comment on. The whelps probably didn't know better, after all. Both whelps seemed more at ease now, at least, which made Morgain feel slightly better about the whole situation. Daago had explained the whole situation as they were eating, and to say Morgain and Cause were flabbergasted would be an understatement.
At least the colony would be able to provide both whelps with a better life, Morgain mused as he watched the two.
Luckily, with the whelps more at ease now, they didn't seem too opposed to the idea of coming with Morgain and Carus anymore. They still didn't seem particularly excited, but followed Cause onto the boat nonetheless although not before giving Daago a final hug and wave. Cause had promised to show them the boat before they left, just to get rid of any potential last nerves before they left.
The rose-coloured belemoid hung back with Morgain for a bit as Tail and Nose explored the boat with Cause.
Daago sighed. "You guys really helped me out there. I'm glad those two are gonna have a good life."
Morgain was a bit taken aback, but nodded nonetheless. "Of course! And if you're ever looking for a place to stay yourself, you are more than welcome to join us, too."
Daago didn't look entirely convinced at the offer, but nodded kindly nonetheless. "I suppose I'll keep your kindness in mind- in case I ever need it myself." She frowned slightly as Morgain patted her on the back and climbed on board of the ship. She was strangely gonna miss those kids.
