"Stay close." Kel said as they stepped into the underground jungle. Thomas and Shasta both nodded which was lost to Kel as he was on high alert. The walls of the bunker seemed to disappear under the green folige and was soon lost in sight. Occasionally he caught a gimplse of the the metalic walls but they became fewer the deeper they went. The air around them felt damp and when he could see the walls they were dripping in water.
Shasta let out a yelp of fright. She stood rooted to the spot she was standing on. She slowly lifted a claw and pointed at a mound of foliage that looked like a moss covered rock. Sitting on it was a creature Kel had never seen before. It had a round body and way to many legs. Before he could say anything Shasta let out another screech then turned tail and ran back the way they had gone. Thomas looked at Kel. Kel nodded his head and Thomas ran after Shasta. With Thomas with her they should make it out safely. But he did not feel like leaving just yet. The creature had not attacked and he needed to know what was in this jungle. With the bunkers open anything could come out.
Kel decided to go make his way around the creature instead of confronting it. He continued on. Without the other two it was quiet and the only noise he heard was the his own foot steps as they rustled the undergrowth. So it took him a little bit to realize that there was another colonist nearby.
"Hello!" He called out in a harsh loud whisper. He didn't want to attract the creatures.
"Hello yourself" came the answer. Out of the shadows of the foilage around them a fellow Tsabhua slowly came into view. He was very dark in color, almost black with a striking white mask.
"Names Marchus." He stuck out a hand. Kel grasped it. "Kel"
"How long have you been in here? Where have you come from?" Kel asked after a little while. He wasn't really sure what to say. Kya was the diplomat in the colony for a reason. He was very good at leading but when it came to meeting new colonist he just lost all his words.
Marchus glanced down at something in his hand. The screen glowed and little lights under the screen blinked on and off. "I have been here awhile maping out the place. He held up the device and Kel could see the screen. It showed that only a couple of pieces had been found. He chuckled a little. "Got to focused on this and lost my group." he added.
"Do you mind if I come with you. It would probably be safer in two's then to explore by ourselves." Kel pointed out before the other could answer the question. Marchus seemed to think about it far longer then Kel thought it should. But Marchus finally shrugged. "Sure. Two eyes are better then one."
Both of them were quiet and did not talk much except for the occasion "watch you step". Kel walked slightly behind Marchus and kept his eye on the surrounding area. They were now in section that the overgrowth completely engulfed the walls of the bunker. Kel could only tell that there were still inside the bunker by the shapes of some of the moss covered 'rocks'. The vines had grown so thick in some places that they spilt onto the ground and seemed to grow up the trunks of tall slender trees.
Kel was moving a piece of green vine when he spotted something on the ground. It gleaned in the small light that the device in Marchus's hand cast. Kel picked it up and examined it. It looked like a little computer chip. Interesting.
"Ah you found one." Marchus took it from his open hand and placed it into the device. It wirled and clicked and then the screen turned red. "Well that's a little disappointing. It's the same one I already have. " Marchus took it out and handed it back the Kel. "Here, you take this. It's not much use to me." Kel took it and pocketed it. He would need to get a devise like the one Marchus had. Just then he saw another light twinkle out from the darkness. Another one. And maybe this one would help with the map. Kel had to climb over some mossy stones to get to it and almost slipped a couple of times. He was reaching down to grab when he felt something big brush passed him. He grabbed the piece with his left hand and looked up. One of the creatures with multipule legs was climbing down from where it had sat in the shadows. Kel didn't wait. He scrambled down the rocks and back to the waiting Marchus. The creature followed. It's many legs easly carried it over the moss covered rocks.
"Let's get out of here" Kel said. The piece clutched tightly in his hand. "I agree. " Marchus answered and the two of them turned tail and ran. The vines around them trying to trip them up as they fled deeper into the jungle.
After a bit. Kel and Marchus came to a halt. "I don't hear it." Kel said. Marchus stood silently for a bit his breathing heavy. "Yeah I don't hear it. Let's try that piece. "
Kel handed it over and watched in silence as the Marchus plugged it into the device. The wiring sound as the device started up sounded much louder to Kel's ears. But soon they had thier answer as the screen turned green and a new piece of the map showed up.
Kel felt like Celebrating. Who knew that this would turn into such an adventure. With a new friend at that. Thomas would be pretty put out that he missed it. " You never did say where your from." Kel said.
"Mireh" Marchus answered. He had already started to move again. The devise once again held his hand so that the slight light would cast about them to make it a little easier to see.
